How do I apply for a L1-A or E visa?

We have specific procedures for individual L1-A (Inter-company Transferees) and E (Treaty Trader and Investors) visas. These procedures do not apply to Blanket L visas. When you come for your appointment, we asked that applicants for L1-A and E visas complete the fingerprinting process, and submit specific documentation listed below for review. Due to the complexity of these cases, L1 and E cases will not be processed the same day as the appointment. We will contact the applicant when we have finish reviewing the case. Our review of your documentation may take up to 20 days. Please apply early and plan ahead for this review period when making travel plans.

L1-A (Intercompany Transferees)

The L visa classification is for multinational businesses with offices in many countries and a corps of specialized employees frequently assigned for tours overseas. The L classification enables a firm to assign one of its employees to an office in the United States. This category covers only company managers and executives, and employees with “specialized knowledge.” Before submitting their application, applicants should review general L Visa Requirements.

Specific Caracas Requirements: All of the following required documentation must be presented in the order shown (originals preferred):

  1. Commercial register of the firm in Venezuela.
  2. Receipts for payment of value added tax (V.A.T.) to SENIAT for the preceding 3 years
  3. Payroll for the company in Venezuela that shows all of the employees for the company, with their position titles, cédula numbers, tenure in the company, and salary.
  4. Bank accounts for the company: that show reflected the payments for the salary of all of the employees that appear on the payroll.
  5. Personal bank accounts for the principal applicant.
  6. Payment for utilities, such as water, lights, and telephone for the location of the business.
  7. Photos of the office where the business operates: the entry, work areas, and warehouse.
  8. Payment receipts for business suppliers where the business acquires its raw materials or inventory.
  9. Receipts from business sales activity for the preceding 3 years.

Please remember that due to the complexity of these cases, our review of your documentation may take up to 20 days.

E (Treaty Trader and Investors)

Treaty Trader and Investor (E) visas are not available for citizens of Venezuela. Applicants from third countries should review the requirements for E visas before submitting their application. Applicants for this visa category should complete Form DS-156E (Nonimmigrant Treaty/Trader Investor Visa Application). Applicants should submit this form, along with any supporting documents in the order indicated on the form.

Please remember that due to the complexity of these cases, our review of your documentation may take up to 20 days.
