V Visas

Thank you for your interest in the V Visa. Please follow the instructions found below to ensure the prompt processing of your case.

Part One: VERY IMPORTANT!

For an alien to qualify for V1 or V2 visa issuance, the consular officer must receive notification from the Department of State or the Department of Justice that a second preference (F2A) petition to accord status to the alien as a spouse or child pursuant to INA 203 (a) was filed on or before December 21, 2000, the date of the enactment of the LIFE Act. Consular officers are not authorized to accept any secondary evidence of the I-130 petition filing that the applicant may have in his or her possession. If you believe that you are eligible for the V visa, but the consular officer has not received the required notification in your case, you will have to contact DHS. The consular officer is not permitted to process your case without this official notification.

Part Two: Required documents

  • Application for Nonimmigrant Visa, Form DS-156. Only typed responses printed from the preceding link will be accepted. No handwritten resposes will be accepted.
