On rare occasions when an American citizen needs a passport for immediate travel because of a true emergency, the Embassy may issue a locally-produced passport with a validity not to exceed one year.  Failure to renew a passport in a timely fashion or inconvenience is not ground for issuance of an emergency passport. 

The emergency passport will be available for pick up 24 hours after the day of the passport application.

Please follow the instructions for U.S. Passport renewal and be prepared to present any evidence you have related to the emergency nature of the request. In order to apply for a emergency passport you must submit DS-11 form filled out in English.

You do not need to set up an appointment in order to apply for an emergency passport.
