Obtaining A Social Security Number
 

If you are applying for a social security number, please complete an Application for a Social Security Card (PDF 163KB) and provide the following documents

Please make sure to bring original documents accompannied by one copy of each:

For Chldren Under 12:

  • U.S. Birth Certificate (if born outside of U.S., you must submit the local birth certificate issued by the foreign authorities)
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Parents’ current form of identification
  • passport (minimum validity of 6 months)

For Applicants 12 years of age or older:

  • Birth Certificate (if born outside of the U.S., you must submit the local birth certificate issued by the foreign authorities)
  • U.S. passport (minimum validity of 6 months)
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Parents' Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Letter stating why applicant waited until 12 or older to apply for a social security number for the first time.
  • Documentation supporting your allegation e.g., all school transcripts (Elementary, Middle School, High School, University, etc.), detailed school letter stating each year spent in that school, diplomas, employment records, driver's licenses, marriage certificate, etc.
  • Mandatory in-person interview (age 12 and older)
  • Statement of claimant or other person (PDF 136KB) (age 18 and older)

Note: When filling out the Application for a Social Security Card (PDF 163KB) please do not forget to include the COUNTRY in item #2 (Mailing Address). Also enter the four-digits for year in dates (e.g., 2007) and when filling in Zeros, please enter them as Ø, and not just 0.

You may submit the application at the American Citizen Services Unit, Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please allow at least 6 months to process your application.

Important Note: If you wish to obtain a social security number as soon as possible, you may apply directly at any Social Security Agency in the U.S. For additional information please see the Social Security Administration's website.
